History

The English Teaching Program was created in 1991 through Internal Decree No. 113. In 1994, the curriculum of the program was reformulated for the first time to incorporate the area of Translation, in response to the need to offer a more attractive alternative to the student market of the time, thus constituting the program as English Teaching and Translation Program under Decree No. 491 of April 28, 1994 (Annex R1).

In 1998, in the context of the Project for the Strengthening of Initial Teacher Training (FFID), the curriculum was reformulated, and a new curricular approach was designed. This curriculum, originally set out in Decree No. 1684 of July 10, 1998 (Annex R2), was improved in 1999 and decreed as Plan No. 1540, dated May 23, 2000 (Annex R3). Its current version, Plan No. 1950, dated May 17, 2002 (annex R4) responds to the educational policies of the State of Chile represented in the Curricular Reform. This is the full justification for the existence of the English Teaching and Translation Program, given the active participation of our country in various areas of the international sphere, the development of communications, technology and information technology, as well as scientific advances and the changes produced by the phenomenon of globalization.
