Research Details and Findings

The study’s primary objective was to determine the level of reflective practice development among 6th and 8th-semester English Pedagogy students during their teaching practicum. This was achieved through a qualitative analysis of reflective journals produced by the students throughout their practical experience. A secondary objective was to assess participants’ perceptions of their own reflective progression during their training.

The results reveal that a large proportion of students have not reached the levels of pedagogical and critical reflection (Larriveé, 2008) expected for the semesters studied. Furthermore, a disconnect was identified between students’ self-reported perceptions of achievement and the evidence found in the analyzed reflective texts.
