SENSE AND MEANING
DESCRIPTION:

This module contributes to developing the graduate profile of student-teachers by establishing how meanings are constructed in oral and written communication, as well as how the speakers’ intentions within specific contexts impact the interpretation of meaning in English. In doing so, it also seeks for learners to identify speech acts and their implications within communicative situations.

LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the module, students should be able to

  1. analyze different ways of constructing meanings in oral and written discourse, identifying the speakers’ intentions and the effect this has on linguistic meaning.
  2. Apply knowledge about speech acts, evaluating the implications they generate in oral or written communicative situations

TEACHING METHODS:

Lectures, students’ active learning, collaborative work, project work, and presentations
