INTRODUCTION TO LINGUISTICS: SPEECH AND SYNTAX
DESCRIPTION:

This module aims to provide students with macro and micro skills to understand and produce oral and written text. Students will learn the essential elements of phonology and syntax to become teachers of English (EFL). There is an emphasis on the relevance of students’ social and cultural context.


LEARNING OUTCOMES:

By the end of the module, students should

1. have an understanding of the essential elements of English phonology and syntax to build vocabulary and develop phonetic memory;

2. learn and use vocabulary related to general information and needs: fixed expressions, common responses, and everyday expressions;

3. be able to identify simple syntactic and grammatical structures to communicate (in oral and written forms) general information and needs.


TEACHING METHODS:

Lectures, collaborative learning, problem-solving activities, debates, assignments
