This module aims to provide an introduction to the basics of English linguistics. Students will learn the essential elements of phonology, semantics, and syntax to become teachers of English (EFL). There is an emphasis on students’ social and cultural context.
By the end of the module, students should 1. have an understanding of the essential elements of English phonology, semantics, and syntax; 2. be able to show understanding of simple phonetic, semantic and lexical patterns to produce oral communication; 3. be able to use different semantic and lexical patterns to produce written communication.
